Summary Look at skulls together, then rotate through stations modelling animals' adaptations. Science content Biology: Features, Adaptations of Living Things (K, 1, 3, 7) Activities in this lesson Skull comparisons Bird beak / animal eating style adaptations Build fins and wings Procedure Introduction: Animals need to 1. find food, and 2. run away and hide from other animals that want to eat them. In a circle, carefully pass around animal skulls, looking at the shape of the teeth, then the placement of the eyes, and for how they help an animal find food, and escape being eaten. Rotate through three stations that explore other Features of Living Things. Station 1 Model Animal eating styles with a game. Look and discuss pictures of animals eating in these different ways. Station 2 Some animals don't have legs. They have wings (like a bird) or fins (like a fish).Build fins and wings onto playdough bodies to create your own winged/finned animal. Look at the sheet for real examples and ideas. Station 3 Photos of camouflaged Animals to look at. Also drawing paper and pens for students to draw their own animal hiding. Notes Probably better suited to grade 1s, though Ks have fun. Grades taught Gr K
